Aston Villa 1 Fulham 0

Was that really the same Fulham side that has just won three on the bounce and thrashed Wolves 5-0 last time out?

The reason I ask is that I`m sat on the roadside typing out this match report and just wondering how a side that had looked so good looked not just average today but very poor.

Aston Villa were no great shakes but we just missed an ideal opportunity to put add three more points to our tally in a game where we only had, from what I can recall, one shot on target.

The eleven selected looked, on paper to be up for the job but they just never really got going.

The early action saw Albrighton and N`Zogbia combine with the latter slicing his shot wide of the post and Schwarzer collect a tame header form Albrighton that was straight at him.

As the half progressed Murphy picked up a bad cut, above the eye, after collecting a stray elbow from Ireland, an injury that was to see him not appear for the second half.

It took Fulham thirty minutes to muster a shot on target (our only one) when Andrew Johnson hit an effort at Given and although we did improve slightly in the second half, by pushing forward with Duff looking bright, fate, in the last few seconds was to deal us a terrible blow.

Gardner, on as a last minute substitution, hit a shot through a crowd of players and although Schwarzer saved it the rebound fell invitingly for Weimann to net.

Ah well, plenty to contemplate as I prepare to head south on a long drive.
