It`s now no wins in eleven Premier League games and only one in twenty-one Premier League games. Things are starting to look desperate and we need a new influx of talent to keep us in with any hope of avoiding relegation.
Many will say that the result was only to be expected, but deep down it still hurts. We`re even further away from safety. Although the points gap between us and Sunderland remains the same, there is now one fewer game to play, the points per game we now need to accumulate to stay up is growing every week.
For the fixture, Roy Hodgson chose to be a little cautious playing only one up front, Clint Dempsey , whilst packing the midfield with five. However, in the early stages it served us well, indeed it would be fair to say we actually had the better of the opening exchanges and Danny Murphy gave us brief hope of an early goal when he volleyed inches wide.
Sadly, the Arsenal machine began to slowly take over and the writing was on the wall when Fabregas unleashed two shots that went wide. With nineteen minutes on the clock the defence was breached for the first time. Hleb, Rosicky and Clichy combined and Adebayor rose perfectly to head past Niemi to notch his fourteenth goal of the season.
The goal only served to emphasise the gulf in class between the two sides. Arsenal went up another gear whilst Fulham looked to be floundering and it came as no surprise when in the thirty-seventh minute Arsenal doubled their lead.
Once again it was Adebayor that delivered the killer blow, this time rising to head home from a Hleb cross with Niemi once again having no chance. However, we almost pulled a goal back when Murphy side footed a shot inches over after good work from Davies.
Hodgson made a change at half time introducing Jimmy Bullard in place of Steven Davis, Bullard received a great reception from the Fulham faithful. Sadly, Arsenal continued to look the better team and Rosicky shaved the post with a drive after Eduardo had supplied a sublime pass.
We thought we`d reduced the deficit when Dempsey headed a Smertin cross home but there were three Fulham shirts in an offside position. After that it was all Arsenal, Fabregas fired just wide before, with eighty-one minutes gone, Rosicky rubbed salt in raw wounds to make it 3-0.
Now I`m off to the pub to drown my sorrows and have a pint in honour of orange-emu whose celebrating his 18th birthday, you might have expected the lads to win for you mate!
