The power of the media is a remarkable thing. People, governments and society are all unequivocally affected by what is printed in the newspapers.

The slightest of scandals can escalate into a personal crisis and a life changing scenario.

Sportsman are inevitably the subject of media focus especially footballers. They`re involved in a high profile occupation, an occupation that`s awash with money eve though the credit crunch is biting into the average family budget severely.

Often rumours are fed to the media by agents eager to get the best for their players, sometimes rumours appear courtesy of lazy journalists simply to fill vacant column inches.

Today and article has appeared in a leading tabloid once again focusing on the future of our own Jimmy Bullard.

Despite Fulham insisting the matter will be dealt with in due course and Jimmy pledging his future to the club, some mischief mongers seem intent on rocking the ship.

Today we learn that both Spurs and Sunderland are keen to snap up the midfielder and would be willing to pay in the region of £4 million for his talents.

Substantiation for the story comes in the shape of the allegation being made that Roy Hodgson has come to the conclusion that a central midfield partnership of Bullard and Murphy is okay at Craven Cottage but is too lightweight on the road.

Quite where the ammunition for this suggestion has come from we`re unable to determine.

We suspect the second of the two scenarios discussed earlier may be more apt, that this tabloid was simply keen to fill a few column inches, so keen that the merest details relating to the truth were cast aside.
