23 year old, New England Revolution, Right Winger, Clint Dempsey, could be on his way over the Atlantic to join the Cottagers.

Dempsey recently beat Fulham forward Brian McBride to be named Major League Soccer’s Honda Player of 2006 – the highest honour bestowed by football writers in America.

Dempsey revealed his intentions to embark on a new challenge in Europe last week and, having seen a £1.5 million bid from Charlton rejected in pre-season by his American pay-masters, the crisis hit Addicks remain firmly on the trail.

‘I definitely want to move,’ Dempsey said, ‘Charlton have made an offer and it looks like I will move during the transfer window.’

The Cottagers look set to launch a rival bid to land the USA international, with the boss confirming: ‘Nothing is set in stone yet, but he is a player I admire, and would love him o make the switch’
