“An ongoing process”: Fulham boss Parker insists there’s still work to be done in one key area

|

Well, it certainly was a step in the right direction.

Now we just have to wait and see what the next phase of the operation is, and just hope that the first one wasn’t a total fluke. I’m talking of course about Fulham and the penalty situation. It’s been something of a hot topic in recent weeks as the club went on a run of three games in a row with a miss from the spot.

That curse was somewhat put to bed when Ivan Cavaleiro scored the second in our 2-1 win over Leicester City on Monday night, and speaking ahead of this weekend’s game with Manchester City, Fulham boss Scott Parker talked about Cavaleiro’s effort and how pleased he was that the team finally got that monkey off its back:

Do you have confidence in Parker fixing the penalty situation?

Yes

No

It’s good to see that we have made some progress on that front, and more importantly that Parker realises just how crucial penalties can be over the course of the season. But we shouldn’t be counting our chickens just yet.

We have to ensure that this isn’t just a fluke like I said earlier, we don’t want to end up with a repeat of the 2016/17 season which ultimately cost us home-field advantage in the playoffs and kept QPR in the Championship.

And whilst we’re not fighting for the same things this time around, hopefully these misses, and any potential future misses don’t come back to haunt us.

What about you? What do you make of Parker’s penalty comments?
