With the media now linking Brian McBride with a link up with Toronto, the tributes continue to pour in for the forward who will be sadly missed at Craven Cottage.

Yesterday, we focussed on a glowing reference from Roy Hodgson, today, we`re proud to be able to report that McBride, who won the ‘Player of the Year` award twice in the four and a half years he was at the club, has received a glowing tribute from none other than Mr Al Fayed.

In a statement released on the official site, Mr Al Fayed had this to say about the player who never once flinched in the face of adversity,

“Over the past four and a half years, Brian McBride has given tremendous service to Fulham Football Club and I would like to thank him publicly for all his efforts, on and off the pitch, following his decision to pursue new opportunities.”

“Brian’s unquestionable commitment and bravery on the field earned him the respect of everyone associated with Fulham and I was proud for him to lead our Club as Captain in recent times. At the beginning of last season Brian suffered a serious knee injury whilst scoring against Middlesbrough in front of the Hammersmith End but in true McBride fashion he fought his way back to fitness to lead our team to safety.”

“It was only fitting that in his last game for Fulham the team secured our top flight future on a memorable afternoon at Fratton Park. His goals against Everton, Reading and Birmingham secured us three crucial wins and his performances encapsulated the spirit which consumed the Club during our fight for survival. I am delighted that he leaves the Club with truly successful memories.”

“The reaction from our loyal fans following Brian`s announcement on Wednesday highlights the esteem with which Brian is held in. He has been a tremendous ambassador for Fulham Football Club and I, as Chairman, would like to thank him and wish him and his family every success for the future.”

Would it be too much too hope that in the very near future Brian is afforded the chance to say a proper goodbye with a lap of Craven Cottage?

The man truly deserves it.
