“A real challenge considering”: Athletic journalist’s pessimistic outlook for Fulham’s winter

|

If this is truly an honest assessment, then I think it really shows how much trouble we are in,

That’s my takeaway from The Athletic’s Peter Rutzler when it comes to his beliefs on where Fulham’s battle against relegation stands at this point. Fulham have ended the weekend on four points in the Premier League table following the loss to Everton, and whilst that is somehow enough to still be outside the relegation zone as we approach December, attention is starting to turn to how many points we can achieve in the future.

And in the eyes of Rutzler, speaking during a Q&A for The Athletic, he isn’t holding out much hope on us picking up many points between now and Christmas:

“I think the games that have already passed are the important ones and the fact Fulham haven’t taken as many points they probably needed to will more decisive. But with all that mind, I’d say seven points would be the perfect target. That’s a real challenge considering the fixtures but reaching double digits before Christmas I think may be crucial.”

Will we stay up?

Yes

No

We all know about the magical 40-point mark that a team needs to achieve in order to stay up, but over the years you have been able to stay up on less than that. So if we are going to go into Christmas with that low a tally, we are going to need some form of miracle to occur once we get past January if we are to stay up.

Either a major turnaround in form, or for this to be a record low in terms of points needed to stay up.

Now we’re not the only ones involved in this, there are three teams currently worse off than us and they have to go through the same process too, but right now it really doesn’t look all that promising if you’re a Fulham fan looking ahead to the winter schedule.

What about you? How many points will we get over Christmas? And how many points do you think are needed to stay up?
