Having joined the Cottager’s from Everton in the summer of 2003, Mark Pembridge overcame injury to become a key member of Chris Coleman`s squad. A tough tackling, no-nonsense holding midfielder, he played for much of 04/05 season and even got on the scoresheet at St Andrew`s when he scored the winner in the Third Round of the Carling Cup.
2004/05 also saw the end of Pem`s international career when, after 54 caps and six goals, he hung up his Wales boots to focus his energies on Fulham. In terms of his history in club football, however, the Welshman has learned his trade across a variety of clubs. He began his career with Luton Town (70 appearances and six goals) and also enjoyed spells at Derby County (140 appearances and 37 goals) and Sheffield Wednesday (103 appearances and 13 goals) before moving to Benfica, from whom he joined Everton in 1999.
Pembridge was plagued with calf injuries last season but the tenacious Welshman had no intention of giving up and battled his way back into Chris Coleman’s plans by the beginning of March.
Mark slotted straight back into the side in March and was a welcome addition at a time when the Whites were struggling due to the injuries of Diop and Elliot. His calm demeanour and immense experience was a massive boost to the Whites and the partnership he struck with Michael Brown was one of the factors that aided Fulham in their historic success over west London rivals Chelsea.
Mark received with a 1-year contract extension at the end of the 2005/06 season.
