A while ago we ran an article suggesting that it was a necessity to get six points out of six from the games against Newcastle and Wigan. With Newcastle snatching a last gasp win, the most we can now hope for is three points. However, it got me thinking!
If we are to pull away from the relegation places the festive period is a period that will either make or break our season.
We have games against Wigan (h), Tottenham (a), Birmingham (a) and Chelsea (h), that`s twelve possible points to take.
Considering we`ve only won twice in seventeen games, it`d take a supreme optimist to suggest that we`re likely to win four on the trot to take maximum points, but then again football is a funny old game and you never know.
But in reality, where can we expect to pick up points?
Wigan arrive at Craven Cottage having humbled Blackburn Rovers 5-3. Under the tenure of their new boss, Steve Bruce, they`ll be keen to prove the old adage about a new boss bringing instant results. It`ll therefore be a tough but not an impossible task.
The short trip to White Hart Lane gives us the opportunity to end our dreadful away run. However, Spurs are also under new stewardship and recently notched up two consecutive wins.
Birmingham are also enjoying the rewards a change can bring. Alex McCleish celebrated his debut, as manager, with a win at White Hart Lane and will be keen to keep the impetus going.
Chelsea arrive at Craven Cottage for a London derby that is always feisty and always an even competitive game. The Avram Grant era has stuttered recently and they could be there for the taking.
Therefore, we`ll get on our high horse and predict that we`ll get a festive return of six points, two home wins to celebrate as our away form continues to go from bad to worse!
