It only seems like yesterday that I took that walk down towards Putney tube station after our last game of the season against Arsenal.

It`s incredible to think that, even though I`ve not been on my summer holidays yet, our season is due to get underway, next Thursday, with June not yet finished.

If a normal season can be described as arduous then the 2011/2012 season promises to be the mother of all seasons.

But, our reward for coming fourth (don`t ask) in the Premier League Fair Play League, has given us the opportunity to grace the European stage again and it`s also given Martin Jol the opportunity to start his Fulham managerial career sooner than he may have anticipated.

Speaking about the early start and our minnow-like opposition, at a press conference yesterday, Jol had this to say,

“My friend told me they were from the Falklands but in fact they are even smaller than that. They`re from the Faroes.”

“It`s not ideal for us to be starting our season so early.”

“Yet we will prepare next week and treat the game like a friendly but with a serious touch.”

It`s a game we should win but the devil in me can`t stop me from asking a question – Is anybody seriously looking at going to the away leg?
