Fulham Boss Shares Our Disappointment At Opening Day Loss

|

On paper, an opening day fixture away to Barnsley looked as if it would provide Fulham with a reasonable start to life back in the Championship.

After all, Barnsley, last season were a League One club whilst Fulham were operating in the top-flight of English football.

But, as we’ve realised many a time before, football doesn’t work that way.

Instead of journeying south with our first three points of the season, it was a glum ride back to the capital after Barnsley showed that, once again, our problems lie with our defence, a defence that conceded 81 goals last season and looks shaky already this season.

After the game, as quoted by The BBC, Scott Parker had this to say:

“We knew it was going to be a tough battle in the first game of the season, which it proved to be.

“We started ok in the first 10 minutes of the first half, but Barnsley got a grip of the game and caused us a few problems.

“In the second half we got into the game and we had chances which they defended heroically at times, but overall it’s very disappointing.”

Yes, we could have snatched a point at the death but am I alone in thinking that if we are to live up to the bookmakers prediction of us being promotion favourites, Barnsley are the kind of side we should be comfortably putting to the sword?
