Tonight, Damien Duff reaches a milestone that only four Irish players have reached before.

The popular Duff will become the fifth Irishman to reach the landmark of 100 caps when the Republic of Ireland take on Italy in their final group match.

Ireland`s hopes of reaching the knockout stages evaporated with two heavy defeats in the opening two fixtures against Croatia and Spain, but the Republic of Ireland team will be playing for their pride tonight when they take on Italy.

To mark the milestone of 100 caps being achieved, Damien will captain the Ireland side tonight but there are many who suspect that it could well be his last international with the player set to call it a day as far as international football is concerned.

But, we`d infer it is not a bad way to end it all with 100 caps under your belt and becoming the fifth Irishman to do so and following in the footsteps of Steve Staunton, Robbie Keane, Shay Given and Kevin Kilbane.
